I may have mixed my harmonic balancers(I may have done it right

).The car is a 1980 spider, rebuilt 2.0L,1800 intake,32 adfa,e-choke,rebuilt,no emmisions.I have removed the front timing cover,It had the marks on it,and installed the metal pointer style.I'm trying to track down a pinging noise that I have. The number 1 and number 4 piston are at tdc and the mark on the balancer is at zero, according to the pointer. On the dizzy, the rotor is pointing just a couple degrees past the number 4 plug location.(rotating clockwise). When you rev it in neutral I can see the advance diaphram moving about 3-5mm. So far does this sound correct? Are the keyways different in order to accomidate the different position of the timing marks?
The plugs that I have are bosch platinums(I just read here that they are no good and may one source of my pinging)The car starts , idles and sounds great(lite popping between 2000- 5000).However, when you engage clutch and accellerate it will PING/lose power, very very bad.Timing too advanced and wrong plugs??Should I get NGK-bpr6es?
Also, with high comp pistons, should I run only 93 octane gas?
Sorry for rambling on,I'm just trying to get my car on the road for the first time.It has been a frustrating journey and I'm so close to the end.
Thank you all
