Right now I've got a piece of wood that props the trunk open when I've got to put groceries or dead bodies in, and I've got a mysterious bit of twisted metal that I was told did something at one time but is broken.
How would I apply this bit of metal to support the trunk lid, and what makes a handy replacement, slightly more convenient than a small plank?

Check out this posting, and see how I fixed the problem, also a way to adjust the springs ( using a 17yr old )

Fordperfect,
What year is your car? From what you describe, it sounds like you have an earlier car with the small trunk lid prop. Later cars from 79 on had springs that held the trunk open.
Here are pictures of the early setup with the hood prop and spring. You should be able to bend up a new prop rod, I may have that spring from a parts car if you need it.

I've got a 77, and I think it's the prop as in those pictures.
Re: Trunk Spring/Prop
Last time i looked, unless you took out the spare, there wasn't a whole lotta room back there for bodies... did you really mean one body and multiple trips to the disposal site?

When you cut them up right, you can fit several in there, and removing the spare helps.mbouse wrote:Last time i looked, unless you took out the spare, there wasn't a whole lotta room back there for bodies... did you really mean one body and multiple trips to the disposal site?
I think a PO had some sort of "s" shaped metal back there which may be for a different year car, but bending it mostly straight seems to work, though it's a little short.

those props are removable.. if .. the bracket is not buggered up.
you might be able to pull that 's' hook out and exchange it for a regular prop from someone's parts car.
