Anyone know what can be used to plug the Pollution Control holes on the top of the cylinder on a 79 Carb model? Way back the PC system cooked my air filter so we welded the PC valves closed, but left them in place instead of trying to find a bolt or something. Not very sightly but got the job done. About the size of an oil pan plug bolt? Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Mike

they are standard metric threads... do you still have a reed valve in your hand? you can take that to AutoZone or Auto Value, or Advance Auto, etcetera
metric oil pan plugs work great. sorry, cannot remember that thread size off the top of my head.

To plug the four air injector holes in the cylinder head, you can use p/n 99642A205 from McMaster-Car. Five to a package.

Mike, I found some metric oil pan plugs at the hardware, and they look marvelous!

Thanks for the suggestions. Ill pop one off and head over to the local auto zone or hardware store and see what I can find. Nothing like creative engineering.

Re: Bolts to fill the PC holes
I have the same situation. I am looking for recomendations on the size of "crows foot" needed to get the reed valves out? The are very lagre in the 28mm area. Not normal size from shelf. Any other ideas on getting them off?

as i recall, they are the same size as the nut that holds down the dizzy, 17mm.
i really don't think my crow foot selection goes up to 28mm, does it? according to http://www.craftsman.com the standard set only goes to 19mm, and i know i have the standard set.

My reed valves are a lot bigger than 17 mm. Oh well, still searching.

I think they have a smaller hex on the bottom under the valve. If not, try a leather belt, wrap it around valve and around a ratchet and extension.
Re: Bolts to fill the PC holes
i bet lunch the crow's foot needed to properly remove them won't be anything larger than i originally suggested.danaspider wrote:My reed valves are a lot bigger than 17 mm. Oh well, still searching.
