Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

Post by ventura ace »

Just did it again for the umpteenth time! Do you guys ever lose your submitted messages, due to the notice that comes back and tells you that somebody else has posted to the same topic??!!! I guess I should look for that message, but I keep forgetting to do so, and the next thing you know, my submitted message is gone (because I've moved on to something else before I realized what was happening). Usually, it's after I've spent 15 minutes digging information for someone, and carefully writing the message, and editing for spelling, etc. -- then come to find it's all been dumped (yeh, by me, accidentally).

Is there some setting on here that I can select that will just go ahead and post my message anyway, regardless of whether someone else has posted already or not? I mean, if I post something, and find out it is not kosher with what somebody else posts while I'm typing, then I can always go back and edit my post. That's a heck of a lot easier than starting all over again. Sheeesh, this really bugs me. Has anybody else found a way to deal with this?

Alvon - This not what you're after, but I always compose my posts in MS Word, cuz "stuff" happens.

Alvon, you dont lose the post, all it is doing is allowing you to review your post again with the new post that just came in. The new post will be on top, just scroll down the page a little and hit submit again. Thats all there is to it. Its actually a benefit to you so you dont post something the guy before you just posted while you were writing yours. This happens all the time with me.

Its still there....just resubmit it.

I reread your post again and dont understand, doesnt the message come up almost instantly like mine does as soon as you hit submit? Are you on dial-up? You could always do a preview first, then submit.

Pope, I understand the process. I just don't like it. I don't need to be told that someone else replied. I'll see that when I look for myself. You see, it doesn't come back as a big flag, so I don't noice it, and I've already clicked to a different screen, which means when I realize what has happened and come back to the compose message screen it is empty. All that effort is wasted. My preference would be to take that 'notification of someone else has posted' feature out. In my opinion it causes 10 times more trouble than it helps.

I better save a copy of this thread before I submit, so I don't lose it!

I am not sure if there's such an option; Mark may be able to provide an answer.

Alvon, as a work around you could highlight the text of your posting and then "CTRL+C" or right click to copy it (if it's a PC). Then if the "Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!" happen to manifest, then at least you can very quickly paste your post again.

You can tell when someone puts alot of time and research into a good responce. I do not think it ever goes un-noticed and is always appreciated. Really, Id rather wrench than wrestle with words.

I've lost posts several times due to a time out (not sure it had anything to do with someone else posting though). I have been doing the "ctrl C" function lately, especially on the longer posts. It is very frustrating.

Ace,

I took some time and went through the Board Index to see if there are any options to prevent the notification from popping up. Unfortunately I couldn't find one. However, and you may know this one, there is an option to save the current post as a draft. You can retrieve this draft from User Control. It doesn't address your frustration directly, but another option that you may consider.

Ps. I saved a draft message (and confirmed that I do want to save and agree to the disclaimer). Once I retrieved the draft from User Control, I couldn't figure out how to post to the forum. Looks like you have to copy the message body and then find your thread and then paste it.

Europa,

You use the "Manage PM Drafts" on the left hand frame, to show and select the stored draft messeages, then use "Load draft" option shown under the date/ time the draft was saved.

Alvon,

Looks like the the new updates to the forum software fixed this issue. I was responding to a post and hit the submit button; I received a notice saying that another poster had a newer post blah, blah, blah... However, my response was still in the text box in its original splendor! Didn't lose anything. I just hit the submit button again and all is well.

YMMV.
