Which Way is "Up" for Front Brake Line?

Post by Pete112 »

Ok, it's a really simple question that may or may not be important. Which way is "Up" for the front flexible brake line that attaches to the caliper? I thought it was the dent facing down and therefore the line angled down. Then I saw in the factory manual in the picture that the dent/angle faces up - at least it appears that way. So I switched them around and faced them up. Then when I went to put the brackets on, they are bent down! Of course I can bend them back up but it's obvious that they were facing down before!

I don't know which way is up or if it even makes a difference?? I wish there was an upside down smilie to put here because that's how I feel :?

If there is a published picture or drawing from Fiat, I'd go with that orientation. I've seen it both ways. I don't think its that big of a deal as long as the banjo bolt and copper washers are properly sealing, and the hose does not get pinched or caught on the steering components. Jack the car up and dry fit it both ways and turn the wheels both ways to full lock and watch how it performs.

I've seen the brackets bent up and down.

Mine seemed to fit better with the angle side down, of course my brakes are screwed so who knows?
