Man, you just dated yourself bidtime! However, yes I remember that AND when FM didn't exist. First time I ever heard all of Dark Side of the Moon was on an FM station out of St. Loius.

well, i had that album when it came out.... but, yeah. one side at a time and about five minutes in between sides so that we could go pee and turn the cassette tape over in time to record the other side.

disgusted with 3-5 minute edited clips of 6-8 minute songs, followed by 30-45 seconds if unintelligent prattle... I gave up on FM broadcast a long time ago. I opted for swapping CD's for years until i was introduced to satellite radio.

i tried Sirius satellite PREPAID radio for a while, until i discovered that they could not go four days in a row without double repeating their paultry selections. and i am quite sure that i remember who i wrote the check to, yet every 15 minutes, they had to interrupt the "commercial free" broadcast to tell me who they were, and whose transmission i was listening to... like DUH  I can't remember? please explain to me how "commercial free" broadcasting can include reminders of other channel selections, names of featured guest DJ's and the like. and why is it that there is only 36-48 hours of unrepeated Blues music available before repeats are mandatory? i think i have five times that in my personal collection.

in my book, commercial free means NOTHING but music. no self promotion.

so, yeah...

give me my miniscule 120 GB iPOD, and i will struggle with that for a while. at least i'm not treated like a 6 year old that cannot read the digital display to understand that who he just heard was the person singing the song. DUH

I am certain that there is room for DJ's ... just not in my car on my stereo. you are welcome to ride shotgun anytime, but let me figure out for myself what i wanna hear, heard or could hear.

Mike,
I can sure appreciate your comments. And in truth, we almost never really do the "DJ" thing on my station anymore, most of what I do is cut spots and PSA's. We have done away with mentioning the artist's name, the song's name etc. And in truth, we have this discussion all the time at the station, the manager wants more of a talk show format at times, I want more music. Debate is good, and again, thanks for your thoughts.

BTW, back on topic my 80 FI car has the exact same two grounding straps just as you describe. Looks factory to me.

I'm with ya, I bought an amp on Ebay that lets you run a system off of an Ipod, with no head unit for my '72. I kind of hate Apple's restrictive software, but like their products. Since I got Ipods cd's seem stupid, why search thru a stack of c.d.'s when my Ipod had 100's of them in it?

so, i am second guessing myself. What if... FM radio gets their collective head screwed on straight and reverts back to the good ole days... with 25 minutes or so of truly UNINTERRUPTED music. i could tolerate 3 minutes of gabbing while i surf my presets if i knew that another 25 minutes of music was on the way. not 'news', not shampoo sales, not weather reports (hello, i am in a convertible... i think i know the weather better than you).. station identification for about 3 minutes might be tolerable.

would i be found foolish to have blanked out my antenna mounting hole on my fender this coming spring? Or, should i continue my plans to have that hole welded shut and pitch the antenna? my second thoughts say that i might could live with a flush mount electric whip, but definitely NO MORE protruding sticks off my fender. anyone have good or bad reviews on the electric flush mount antenna?

majicwrench... are you PBS or NPR ?? i actually enjoy a few programs at some of these stations, when i can get reception. but that is fleeting at best here in KOW KUNTRY.

htchevyii.... i paid $39 to obtain third party software for my iPOD, so i could use Windows Media Player because i prefer not to use any proprietary software like Apple's. if they are in control.. that is not good. had the iPOD not been a gift, i would have bought a non-proprietary brand of MP3 player.

Mike, where's the antenna on your car? I put a flush mount on my '82, (allready had the hole at the rear of the pass front fender). It was a p.i.t.a. and a bit scary! There was a panel below the hole that kept the antenna from fitting in, so I got my hole saw out and drilled a hole. Slid in the antenna and hit another panel! Now the hole saw wont reach down far enough to make another hole. I had to get a drill extender to drill the second hole. My '72 allready had a flush mount in the same place, but I haven't taken it out to see what is underneath.

mine is currently at the rear driver's fender, easily accessible from within the trunk. only issue could be is that 100% of the antenna i choose will need to share space with the tank filler pipe. So, if i do switch to an electric, i need to know that it will fit w/out modification. of course, that is relative to the exact location of the hole.

does anyone know if there any elect antenna that is better/worse than the thousands available? what should i look for and expect to pay?

Mike,
We are a NCE LC --non-commercial educational low power. By non-commercial, it means we cannot get carried away promoting businesses, but we CAN mention our sponsors and supporters. We do several talk-type shows, and stiveto keep em short, we chat with the mayor, the fire chief, someone bringing in an entertainment group, etc. Yes, we do weather reports, one reason we do is that it gives us a program to have a business sponsor, " and that's the weather, brought to you by Thompson Real Estate....." which is how we keep the doors open.

Speaking of keeping the doors open, do you know the difference between a DJ and a large pizza???

A large pizza can feed a family of three.

So, is it possible to have too many grounds? (i.e. motor to frame, etc)

where i come from, ground is cheap. in england, they aren't called ground, they are called earth. my coffee was fresh ground this morning.

too many? dunno. adding grounding straps won't hurt anything, unless you connect a positive wire along the way. certainly some of us highly recommend adding a large gauge grounding strap between the body and the engine block.

can too many become gawdy and irrelavent? possibly.
