the demand on your time (usually directly related to the demand on your offer / product) decides how much you are worth per hour. I know plenty of web designers who think their time is worth $200 an hour. Went to school .. have a degree.. asking for big time money and cant sell squat. So when sales are near 0 and you think your time is oh so valuable yet have no customers to service. thats an attitude that needs a reality check. I cant stand seeing a broke ass person telling me how valuable their time is. A bum is living in his car in my parents neighbors driveway. Nice guy mid 30s drives there to sleep. no money , no home, Offered him $12 an hour to paint or clean gutters or landscape.. he says no .. thats not worth his time. I know plenty of 30' something friends that live with mom and dad still delivering pizzas and wont do anything extra unless something is guaranteed for doing it. while i try not to judge anyone its hard not to want to say what i would love to say which is get off your lazy arse and get something going for yourself. Your not worth that much to be acting like that.
Remember its not about profit margin... its about gross dollars.

I'm thinking of getting some rubber that is 2" thick and playing with the idea of gluing it together. My question is, has anyone tried to either sand or cut a thick block to mold the shape after you glue the pieces together? I'm sure I could get it close. It would probably leave glue lines. I know there is bumper paint for touch up and I think it would do just fine hiding the lines.
Let me know what you used to shape your rubber!

Well, you could glue them up, then sand them, and then cover them with truck bedliner, as per Kuhndg:

Thanks Mark! Those are the European version. About a year ago a guy across the boarder was selling a car on EBay and in his description said he had a set he was including with the car. So I contacted him and he sold them to me for what I thought was a fair price. we sprayed them with truck bed liner and was very happy with the finish.

I looked into getting the rubber for the bumpers and they wanted $50. I thought it cost too much for a cheap solution. I'm going to just return to my wood ones and coat them with fiberglass. I should have the backs fabricated this week. I'll let you know what they look like.

If your not going to profit from the design would you be willing to pass on the dimensions or maybe a template to the rest of us? I'm really interested in how yours turn out and may have a go at some myself.

The ones I'm making won't help anyone. Unless they are putting them in the same place I am. The front are going here.

And the back ones are going beneath my inside tail lights. I am putting my reverse lights in the bumper hole because they are 5" long. I'm going to fill in the exhaust opening.

I could give you the shape of mine if you want. The back ones are wider than the front. The back of each bumperette has to be shaped differently to make a seamless transition from the body. I use a belt sander and square to make sure they come out good. Plus I measure the first one make to duplicate the second to be exact. As you see in the pic I was messing around with the bumpers to see what it would have been like if I put the reverse lights in them.

Materials alone for these (some maple, some birch ply) is about $450 each... as a minimum I figure I'm invested at least about 20 hours/per (I made 4)... now, if I wanted to pay myself say $20/hr...

I just got a catalog that had identical units, made out of metal (likely in China), selling for $50... nope, will keep it a hobby, can't even sell mine for cost of the WOOD.

We are here at FiatSpider.com because we are willing to do most of the work OURSELVES. Some things cost what they cost. I'd hate to spend the money on a set of the wheel inserts... but I will, because I know what it COSTS, lol... and I WANT them!
