I have read that GL1 is the transmission fluid to go with, in a Spider. I am from the Toronto area and cant find it. Is there a different category, or name that would help. I have tried all the auto supply outlets, farm equipment shops, lubricant suppliers, and wholesale petroleum suppliers. Thanks for any help

Re: Transmission Fluid
Tried NAPA, they dont have it. Maybe you can send me the product code and they can check their list that way.

Re: Transmission Fluid
I know Matt post from Vick's, he has it. Or just hit Napa's online store, shouldn't be too difficult with a computer.
Good luck.
Good luck.
Re: Transmission Fluid
Called NAPA in Canada, and they dont have it. No sweat, I'm heading south this weekend and I'll pick some up. Thanks
Re: Transmission Fluid
each NAPA store is potentially privately owned and franchised. they independantly decide which of the NAPA product line to carry and which to not carry. whether or not they choose to stock a particular part number is completely separate from their ability to order off the full part list. They are also very well connected, and routinely run parts from one store to another...on a daily basis; trading parts with each other to suit local needs. none of them carry the complete product line--stock is dictated by the average local needs.punes wrote:Called NAPA in Canada, and they dont have it. we are fortunate in this area to have a NAPA store at most every wide spot on the road, at least one in every county seat. I work in Sturgis, and live in Coldwater...25 miles apart. I called the Sturgis store, they said they don't stock that product, and could special order it if i agreed to buy a full case (six gallons). i told him he was nutz. i stopped at the Coldwater store on the way home and told the counterman my story... after he finished laughing at the other store manager, he handed me a gallon of GL-1 off his shelf.
armed with that knowledge, you should be able to insist that your local NAPA store special order your one gallon of GL-1, or stop by my house and we'll have a couple of chillies, then trip on over to the Coldwater NAPA.
the trick is to find a NAPA that services farm implement owners. farmers use a buncha GL-1 in their tractors and such.
Re: Transmission Fluid
I contacted a John Deere farm supply, which services huge farm tractors and they dont have it either. I am in Ithaca this weekend and will check the NAPA there on Saturday. Thanks.
Re: Transmission Fluid
well, you are always welcome here... in KOW KUNTRY, where we have a daily refreshed supply of GL-1, and the necessary INSTALLATION fluid.
Re: Transmission Fluid
How about transmission fluid for an automatic?
One of our resource books says "Dexron automatic transmission fluid". A quick google search shows me that there are a number of varieties of it. Are any of them acceptable?
