Many Parts stores carry this non-GL5 oil, specified for a few GM and Chrysler models with brass, bronze and/or copper parts.
I understand that such parts are the reason you should not use GL-5 in a spider transmission.
Anyone have experience using this oil in a Spider?
Thanks!

Yes, it will be fine. A little pricey compared to NAPA GL-1 non-EP, but fine.

Thanks - you are right, but our Napa store closed after both O'Reilley and Advanced A.P. moved into our little town.kilrwail wrote:Yes, it will be fine. A little pricey compared to NAPA GL-1 non-EP, but fine.
Could not find other GL-1, Non-EP here, and shipping would make it a wash @ $7.49/qt.
My concern was that NO GL or EP rating of any kind appears on the product container - Just the GM and Chrysler spec numbers.
Thanks again - maybe your post will also help someone else in the same spot.

I believe Synchromesh is also a synthetic and maybe why it's labeled differently.

Spec sheet I found cautions against ANY "off-spec." use, so I will take it back for a refund and get a "known."mdrburchette wrote:I believe Synchromesh is also a synthetic and maybe why it's labeled differently.
Better safe than sorry.

After some more research, not only are you correct, but the more modern "synchromesh" oil seems to be considered superior to GL-1 by many. There is an extensive thread on the topic on another board:kilrwail wrote:This is not a new topic...

Re: Penzoil Synchromesh Transmission oil?
I contacted Pennzoil. They did not recommend it for our transmissions.
1978 Spyder 1800 make that 2L! Finally making real progress!
