transmission smell
transmission smell
when i shift into 5th gear there is a burning rubber smell that lasts a couple of seconds. This could happen right after the shift or a minute or so later, and only happens at highway speed. the trans is not in the best shape(noisy, and will pop out of 3rd when you unload it) but is ok for now.Anybody have any ideas what is going on?.............thanks........ron
Re: transmission smell
i'm sure it is the clutch, but why only in 5th gear and only at highway speeds? ron

Re: transmission smell
I'm guessing, but I think it could be oil dripping from the distributor onto the exhaust manifold.
One of my Spiders has this problem and I just haven't gotten around to fixing it yet. When ever i get up to highway speeds a bit of smoke and "the smell" comes in through the shifter boot. Happens every few minutes unless I back off to 55 or 60 mph.
You can check by running your finger under the distributor. If you feel oil there, this might be the cause of the smell.
