Rims stuck on car...

...using penetrating oil and WD-40 and will wait a bit before applying the BFH. I've never had this happen before.

What are good preventative measures I should use? A little grease now and then?


Edit: Had the idea that since I need new rubber as well, take it to the tire shop where they have better tools/experience than I, get new tread, and then replace the struts!

I'm assuming that you've got the lug bolts out, but can't get the wheel off? I usually kick the edge of the tire and they pop off.

I purchased a car that had been sitting outside for a number of years. All 4 wheels were stuck to the hubs. The rear 2 came off by having a co-worker hold a 4x4 against the tire right at the rim and hitting it with a sledge hammer. The front 2 just would not come off. This might sound crazy but I greased the rear wheels and put them back on. Put the front lugs in very loose about 1/4" space to wheel. Drove the car down the driveway spun the steering wheel and slammed on the brakes. After a couple times both wheels broke free. Of course I am not suggesting anyone else try this.

once you get them removed, clean the rust off both surfaces and coat them with anti-seize

I've seen it done with a long 2X4. Wheel jacked run the 2X4 from the other side of the car underneith to the back of the stuck wheel. Hit the 2X4 very hard.

The tire shop got them off with a 6lb hammer, hitting the rubber and rotating the wheel as they went. They estimated that the tires were maybe the second pair, and that they were at least 15~20 years old as the model had not been produced for at least that long.

They had to pry them from the rims. After that, they cleaned them up before putting on some new ones.
