My new "Fiasco"

Yes, it's happened. Pigs have flown, the goose has been chased, Peter has been robbed to pay Paul, and Hell has officially frozen over. Steve is finally getting another Fiat!

I went out to Mark Allison's shop yesterday and worked out a deal on a car to replace the original Fiasco. The name will live on, hopefully as a reminder of all the fun and enjoyment to be repeated, and all the frustration and disaster that will never revisit my door



It's a 69 with a 2 liter that Mark is going to get mechanically sorted for me, and then I'll bring it home and make it pretty. Not that I don't just LOVE the Italian flag hood....

I didn't really have enough maneuvering room to get good pics at the shop, so I'll post more after I pick it up.

Really looking forward to getting back on the road!

Front bumper is missing, so I'll probably go bumper blocks and sell the split rear bumper (which is also not perfect). Interior needs some work. Carpet needs to be replaced. Rear seat looks like it will clean up ok. I'll swap out the front seats for the ones I have from my old car. The dash needs to be redone, and there are no consoles. I haven't decided whether to buy replacement stock consoles, or build a custom console of my own. I've never really loved the stock one.

Congrats on the new ride! The '69 is said to be lighter than the bigger bumper models and it's the last year of the cooler Euro side markers. I've had my '69 for 7 years, and it also has the 2.0 motor. I've got the 1.8 head on it, and a set of IDFs. I really recommend these upgrades to the 2.0. If you find a usable 1.8 head, you can swap it out in a weekend. The '69 came with the nice looking Vitaloni rear view mirrors, and I believe that the '69's chrome strip below the doors is both different, and in a different place than subsequent cars. It's the last year of the nice looking chrome front grill, which in my opinion looks nicer than grills used afterward. The '69 model offered optional alloy wheels that were the same as the American Racing "Libre" wheels. Called "Roosevelt" wheels, they're 13" five spoke mags, and lots of people dig'em (except me, I sold mine). The '69 also sports a real teak wood (veneer) dash.

Check out YouTube for What's-His-Name's Positano Yellow '69 from the Superbowl Strut a couple years ago, it's a beauty, and a good inspiration car.

Everyone should know that Gary's immaculate '69 is my inspiration. Of course mine will never be as original as his, nor look as clean and sharp. But I am very excited to be joining Gary in the 'coolest year for Fiat Spiders' club. No offense meant Ron - I'm sure '82s come in a close second.

Made some more decisions today. Going to go ahead and have Mark put in his braided brake hose kit and EBS pads, the 95 amp alternator and the distributorless ignition, as well as a brand new soft top.

He's also going to swap out the wheels for me. Instead of what shows in the pictures above, I'll have these Iron Cross wheels:
