paint code

Post by biil9 »

does anyone know how to tell what color a car was originally using the vin# or is their another way? unlike the muscle cars i have done in the past this car doesn't appear to have any tag with the code on it. the vin is 124bs 0023213. thank you

Check for a sticker on the underside of the trunk lid. That's where the paint colour/code normally is.

I have an early spider ('72) my paint code is on the firewall tag just below and to the right side of the hood latch (behind the distributor). There is a VIN code, then engine code, then 3 digit code after the word "body" corresponding to these basic colors: http://www.mirafiori.com/faq/content/co ... rcodes.htm.
It is possible that a previous owner removed the plate and didn't replace it.

Here is a photo of mine. Mine is # 347 (Some sort of Green). I can't find this color in any of the Fiat color charts.

My '79 has the paint code in the same place and also on the trunk lid.

That chart only goes up to 79 - Is there a newer chart somewhere?

My 81 is FI 449.

Thanks!

unfortunately whoever repainted the car didn't put the tag back on. there also is no tag in the trunk. is there a source who could decode the color using the vin? thank you

Try this link for AutoColorLibrary: http://www.tcpglobal.com/autocolorlibra ... t-pg02.jpg
I believe 449 is "Dark Blue".

Yes it is...I didn't see it on the color chips for the first page, but it is indeed on page 2.

Thanks!

It looks like you have a 71 model Spider? Unfortunately, the VIN doesn't tell you much at all about your car. It's basically a serial # vs a VIN #. Yours should have that plate that NCArachnid posted a pic of located on the passenger side firewall. If it doesn't, you may be able to find something that wasn't painted, maybe in the trunk, to see what the color was.

My 72 is maroon. I'll check the paint code and see what year models it was used on.
