not that i really want to encourage you to do this, but i think you probably need a new speedo then. There is one on ebay but it's an entire 1800 spider dash. thats cool because the speedo goes up to 140! (not that you'll ever get there anyway, but maybe, just maybe you'll get over the current 85). Maybe wait a week or so, cause i'm bidding on that one, lol. actually I don't need it so if you really want it you can have it. i bid pretty low. On the other hand if I win I'll sell you my speedo which has lower miles on the ODO than yours, lol.
oh, i guess i want to make it clear that I really do think you need a new one. if neither was working i'd say something was disconnected, but since the odometer seems to be working that means the needle is broken or something internally is stuck. you can risk taking it apart, but i hear those are a pain to get put back together right.

Thats what I was thinking.I haven't had a chance to take it out to look at.If you do get the other dash,I would be interested in purchasing youre speedo.also,do you still have that RH tail light assy? Its just starting to warm up here in michigan.and soon I will be out tinkering with the cars.have a good one.

I'm not currently winning that auction and haven't decided if it's worth it (to me) to bid again, so you're probably out of luck with buying mine off of me.
Anyway, I thought you wanted the driver's side tail light (LH)? At any rate I still have both taillights and am thinking about selling one to you and the other on ebay. Send me a PM or just email me at danielreinhardt@msn.com and we'll discuss it some more....
so when this cable was disconnected did your ODO continue to work?Hjulen wrote:When my speedo broke a couple of years ago, replacing the speedo cable that hooks on the transmission fixed it for me.
That was back when my car was still an automatic I think.
It wasn't hard, you just have to doing some controsionist moves in there.
a broken cable would cause the speedo and odo to be inoperative. If just one doesn't work, you have a defective speedo unit. There are several small gears and wafers that make the odo work, if any of them wear out the odo won't operate. There are companies around that repair them, but you can buy a used unit much cheaper, but it'll be hard to find one with comparable mileage
i have been working on my moms 1978 fiat 124 spyder and i got it running and tuned myself after not running for 3 years but my speedometer needle starts at 10mph and it works when u go faster than 10mph any ideas on how to fix it

if you are a purist, there are places that will rebuild your speedo. just look on the net for them.
however, it prolly would be better to pick up a good condition used one.
odo working - speedo inop = broken unit
i had the fortune of finding a 140 mph odo NEW from Obert's a couple of years back. Now the needle doesn't stop moving at 85 mph....does that classify as a performance upgrade?
