Just saying hello to everyone, being a new member located in the south of Sweden.
My car is a red 1980 2 liter fuel injected spider. My guess is that it was destined for the US, but never made it across the Atlantic for some reason. It has lived most of it's life in Germany (1980-2000), then it was bought by an English guy who worked for the UK army in Germany. He brought it over to the UK, but also had it shipped to Cyprus (!) for two years. I found the car on eBay early 2008, and bought it without even having looked at it (I hadn't even driven a Spider before). Flew over and drove home (400 miles) - no problema.
The car was extensively overhauled in the mid 1990s, including new soft top, chrome bumber conversion, lower Hörmann sport springs, yellow Koni dampers, s/s 2" free flow exhaust, 7x15" BBS split alloys with 205/50 tyres, respray in Ferrari Rosso, Nardi steering wheel and an impressive audio installation with additional amplifier in the boot. I even got a three piece Korbler targa hardtop with the car, haven't tried it on yet though.
Engine appears to be stock spec, with approx 72000 miles on the meter now. This springs project will be installing a new overhauled, gas flowed and ported cylinder head, perhaps with new cams as well (maybe Mark A's FI performance cams, they seem to get good reviews here). I need to tear down the upper part of the engine anyway since I have a leaking cambox gasket, resulting in oil soaking the passanger side of the engine bay. New respray also coming up in a couple of years.
Hope to get a lot of good advice from all of you experts, and hopefully give some back also. As you can guess, I wont be able to join in on any meetings...
