Speedo Cable?? (SOLVED)

The PO of my 1976 appears at some point to have replaced the dash with one from a Spider 2000, or so it says on the glove box. I have the deep well guages both speedo and tach and the speedo was not hooked up or functional. On the back of the speedo the cable attaches with a plastic clip built into the cable as you might expect.

There is a device under the dash which the cable from the transmission is plugged into, looks like a junction box with a place to connect an upper cable?? It has a threaded input/output on each side and is bolted in place. There are two wires coming from this thing which I have not bothered to trace as yet.

My question:

Is this a common configuration and does anyone know what I should be asking for in order to get someone to sell me this part so I can see how fast I am flying down the highway again?

Thanks,

A 1976 should have a deep face tach and speedo. The speedo cable screws on the back of the gauge. On later models with shallow face tach and speedo they went to a plastic clip system that is sometimes hard to attach/detach. I parted out an original 1976 spider last year and did not come across that intermediate box.

the "box" is a device that turns on the egr light on the dash every 30k or so miles, telling the owner its time to service your emissions system!.. delete!

Ah ha!!! Thanks Beek!!!!

My speedo at some point was changed for a shallow one with the clip, hence my attachment problem. I have ordered a deep face for to match the tach and will ignore the box under the dash, or at least the wires from it.

Problem solved once again, thanks to this forum and all your knowledge.

Much appreciated!!!
