After market rear sway bar
After market rear sway bar
Anyone have a photo of a rear sway mounted on their spider? I picked one up new/never used, but no instructions where with it. I'll be able to figure it out, but a look at one mounted would help speed installation up. Thanks

Do you think someone at IAP might have a picture? I've got one but it's not installed.

I have heard and I am no authority, that a 1" swap on the front sway bar is better than adding a rear sway bar.

You've probably got the bar installed by now, but I thought I'd post these anyway for others. The instruction sheet that accompanied my Aadco rear bar was so light it was virtually unreadable and the diagram wasn't very clear. I cleaned them up and corrected some omissions, so here they are for whoever needs them. You can click on the link under the pictures to download a larger copy from Flickr. If I can find the pics I took during the install I'll put them in the same Flickr folder for reference.
One problem I had was the "base plate" and the "locking device" were so thin that they deformed when the nuts were tightened on the U-bolt allowing the unit to rotate on the axle. I added some steel shims and that helped but I've seen since that others have substituted muffler clamps for the stock parts to give a better grip on the axle.

Re: After market rear sway bar
I have always disliked this particular bar as it adds even more unsprung weight to a car that really doesn't need it.

Re: After market rear sway bar
I ordered one a few weeks ago but I sent it back because after messing around with it for an hour under the car I could see that there was no way I could install it properly without moving the brake line that runs along the axle. It would have become a bigger project than I was prepared to do at that point.

@Razooli
Thanks for the info on the sway bar. I haven't installed it yet as the snow has just finally melted away.I'm missing a couple of brackets but I'll be able to fab some up. Thanks for taking the time to post. Karl, as for the additional weight, that will be offset greatly by dropping the heavy bumper.

It will be a reduction in sprung weight, the added weight to the axle will remain.mostlytwowheeled wrote:@Razooli

I am picking nits on this, obviously. Give us an update on its install (pics of the steps) and a review of how you like the change it brings to the handling. Clearly anecdotal (unless you have a repeating track day or autocross you can try it out on), but a good data point nonetheless.
Good luck on with the install.
