Interior work questions

I pulling all the interior out to replace the carpeting and old insulation. I noticed the carpet was installed with screws. I plan on using interior spray glue. I also am taking out the floor insulation and upgrading to double backed foil with closed cell. It's not as thick but is a much better heat insulator. I have almost everything out and was wondering if there are things I should check while it's stripped down? I don't see a speck of rust anywhere as this car has been kept in California and particularly the valley of Sacramento so I would not expect rust. Any suggestions while I have the interior out? I also plan on removing the door trim and cleaning and greasing all the door mechanical mechanisms. Thoughts? (1978 Spider) Thanks!

With both the upper and lower console out, you can drop the heater box simply by undoing four spring clips. This will allow you to examine the heater core and heater valve, clean out any insect nests in the air intake, lubricate the heater cables and hinges, etc. If you need a new core or valve, it's easier with the consoles and seats removed.

Check the map pockets; they often get the rivets broken off by careless feet.

If you're thinking about upgrading or installing a sound system, now would be a good time.

Great time to inspect fuel lines that run on the inside of the fiat..any damage or pinched lines should be fixed at this time.
