OK, I'll have to update with pictures at some point, but for now here are the sounds.
sounds were recording as follows:
1. Stand at passenger door, hold recorder at about window height. then after several seconds (10ish) move the recorder near to the exhaust exit. Placement is out of line with the exit, about 6" away at about 45 degrees.
2. second sound file for each is the sound of the car at idle recorded from the interior with the top up. Other things to note are that my doors have no insulation or interior panel. Also, I have installed new sound/thermo insulation on the floor. i think I documented that last year some time.
This first set is the sound of NO EXHAUST:

Second set is of this cheap muffler I bought at the local farm supply type store. It is 2" inlet and 2" outlet.

Final sound set is of the muffler described above PLUS a straight through 2.5" inlet 2.5" outlet muffler from ebay a couple of years ago.

inside car: http://www.danielreinhardt.com/fiat/EXHAUST_2.wav
Decision was to go with the final setup, it sounds the best by far. There is a tin-y note to the cheap exhaust only, the straight through exhaust added seems to leave the low sounds alone while taking the high sounds, volume between the two isn't much different.
The exhaust currently exits in front of the RP tire, clamps, adaptors, a 90 degree pipe for exit, the two mufflers set me back about (listed in order) 2+2+2+2+2+9+25+25=70 bucks(-ish).
Exhaust sounds.
what birds? have you been whacked on the head? No, just kidding. those birds were driving me crazy that day. I don't know where the came from, but a flock of a couple hundred decided to park for about 2 hours in my tree. when I did the sound recording most had flown away, so you can only imagine how it sounded before!mbouse wrote:ummm..... did the birds come with the Ebay muffler, or did you install them separately?
