Stick Shift = Theft Deterrent

Who would have ever thought that having a stick shift vehicle would be a great theft deterrent?

I heard of another car jack where a man and woman got a block or 2 down the street before abandoning the car. Issue was that neither could figure out how to shift it. I'm surprised they got that far down the road. Took my grandson out in the fiat and he showed great curiosity about all the shifting stuff.

The times are a changing. I understand the paddle shift process and function. I just like shifting a stick. Let's avoid the jokes about shifting a stick here. My guess is 95% of the people on this forum are stick shifters.

About 7-8 years ago my son was sitting in the car talking to me while I was warming her up. He looked to the right and said "dad, what is this?", I said "the window cranker?" he said "yes, what does it do". I showed him and he though it was the coolest thing in the world. We proceeded to have roll up/roll down races until I decided I did not want to fix the door as well that day.

Maybe at some point future car enthusiast will actually like the idea a manually shifting a stick rather than playing with paddles. Then we can all laugh as they try to parallel park without the assistance of a computer.

i'd guess the majority of young drivers these days can't drive stick. my 18 years olds can't, but more because i didn;t own a stick when they were first learning to drive. they now want me to teach them

similar to the window crank... a kid in my house once needed to call a parent, so i pointed to the phone, a 1930's rotary dial beauty. stumped, the kid asked where the buttons were. "no buttons", i said, "just dial the number". the reply... "what do you mean dial?"

another kid wanted to know where the monitor was for the manual type writer. i blew their little minds when i cranked up the victrola.

Very cool comments. I really like the rotary phone and remember when the first push buttion phones came out. We had one rotary phone in the house mounted on the wall in the kitchen. Well thought out location as all conversations were soemwhat public even with a 30 foot cord to try to have a private conversation.

Churning butter reminds me of a cool way to get a kids attention. I wonder where all the ice cream maker machines have disappeared to?
