Replacing stuff. Dash hanging out. My tachometer is a plastic unit, probably origin. Since I bought the car, 1978 Spider 1800, and there is a very thin paper gasket between base and black bezel. I is partially sticking out into face area. I have tried everything short of prying it off, afraid might crack plastic body. This black metal bezel turns freely in either direction but does not appear to screw off, at least not after about 10 turns either direction. Really want to get that gasket out of there. Thinking of replacing with new chrome bezel. Anyone solve this problem with your gauge? Suggestions, techniques, ideas. I know it is thin metal because I tried to pry it just a bit and bezel easily bent out but I was able to straighten it out.
Second question: PO put one of those half dash caps on. Some glue ran out, he used some auto trim screws in various places. Feels like I could get it off easily enough but since I cannot afford New dash, I am thinking of AR's full dash cap. Anyone had any good luck putting one on? I don't want to pull old half cap off unless I think I can get a new full cap on without needing a engineer's degree. I might find I can clean, repair, sand and repaint old dash. But if it is a total waste, I want to be pretty sure I can order and put new dash cap on.
Thanks
Texsardo
