and was choosing between the new Spider and new Miata - I might choose the Miata. I wonder what the Spider would look like if Fiat didn't try to put in styling cues from the classic and just started fresh? The Miata is a good looking car - I think I prefer it's looks. Road and Track likes it better on the track but here calls the Spider, "so damn handsome" or words to that effect. hmmm. I love my '77. I couldn't do it.

I saw a new Spider last week and thought it looked absolutely stunning. The colour was a charcoal with saddle interior; top down. Beautiful!

If money were no object - but, alas, it is - I wouldn't hesitate to buy a new Spider. To have the old and new sharing garage space would be priceless!

I've yet to see either except in photos. And I've never bought a brand new car and probably never will. I like to get them broken in.

Re: If I was buying a new car...
saw a couple of them at the All Italian car show a coupe of weekends ago. It is a nice looking car, but like the styling of most new cars, kind of boring. Sure it drives nice and would make a great daily driver sports car. I actually think the new Miata is kind of dumpy looking by comparison, and liked the last generation body better.
From the rear, it kind of looks like a Honda S2000
the front bumper assembly look a little disjointed from the rest of the car, almost like a body kit add on. I am just being picky though. Like to see the Abarth version when it arrives next year.

Re: If I was buying a new car...
If choosing between the two and planning on keeping it forever I'd say Miata hands down. Mainly due to the longevity and availability of parts and aftermarket support. FIAT may pull the plug quickly, or if successful will likely develop their own platform making long term support difficult at best. MO only...
