Hi from TN
Muy name's Gil, got my 81 Fiat Spider about a year ago, still working on it hopefully, soon it'll be road worthy, so far I rebuilt the seats pans, rebuilt all 4 calipers, new brake hose, replaced the brake proportioning valve, installed a new radiator fan switch and te wired it to original, new coolant houses, got about a pound of rust out of the fuel tank, replaced timing belt, fixed some lighting issues, still a work in progress, lots left to do still

Re: Hi from TN
Welcome, Gil, and I'm thinking a 1981 would be fuel injected. You've done all the advisable first steps (new timing belt, getting rust out of the tank, brakes), so let us know how things progress. With that much rust in the tank, you may have some remnants of rust in the rubber or metal lines to the front of the car, fuel filter/pump, etc. The injectors (including the Cold Start Valve) might have some crud in them and need replacement or cleaning. As well as the fuel rail and pressure regulator.
