As I replaced the engine, I took measurements so the information could be shared here.
The gearbox without shifter cover is 31 kg (67 lbs). The clutch, pressure plate, and the flywheel weigh 19 kg (42 lbs).
Various stages of engine build:
85 kg (187 lbs) with:
- Short block
- Pistons & crankshaft
- Flywheel
107 kg (236 lbs) with:- Water pump
- Cam towers
- Empty oil sump
- Oil filter housing w/o filter
- Engine mounts attached
- Timing belt & pulleys
- Engine build as above, plus
- Clutch
- Bell housing
- Gearbox (no oil)
- Rear mounting bracket for gearbox
Finally, ignore all the advice about installing the shifter tower cover after the gearbox is in place. Instead, put the cover on before installation, and then install the shifter stick after the gearbox is in place. This approach will save you a lot of ball ache.
