Guibo failure and mystery driveway stain
Guibo failure and mystery driveway stain
Well, on my way home from work on Friday the guibo lost a large chunk as I was passing another vehicle. Fortunately, it was only about 3 miles from home so I took it easy and parked her. After the monsoons let up and I could take a good look, I also found a mystery stain in the driveway. The stain was a milky white with no other discernible color or odor. Would the guibo failure cause a transmission seal to fail and could this be the cause of the mystery stain? Also, if that is the case, how difficult is it to repair? My Dad and I have done the guibo replacement before and it isn't too bad but the thought of transmission work scares me and my wallet! Thanks!
Re: Guibo failure and mystery driveway stain
the only time I've seen a tranny problem from a guibo failure was complete destruction when the driveshaft started flailing around.
Milky substance is usually oil mixed with water. Was the stain under the tranny?

Re: Guibo failure and mystery driveway stain
Well, as usual Mark, you are right. Once the spot got a little daylight to it and it dried for about 30 minutes the milkiness went away and only a motor oil residue was left. I have a small leak from a failed oil pan gasket, that I have been putting off for nicer weather and I guess coupled with the rain I drove through Friday and the additional rain all day yesterday that is likely where it came from. I couldn't tell precisely where it came from since I could only see it after I rolled the car forward in the driveway. I knew that it was close to the tranny but I couldn't tell just how close. Thanks for the reassurance. I know the drive shaft hasn't bounced around too much so hopefully all is good once I replace the guibo.

Leave the band on the Guibo untill it is installed, and ( oops ) take the band off before you drive it!
Re: Guibo failure and mystery driveway stain
OK, I've read this thread over and over and I still cannot figure out what the "Guibo" is.
Can somebody help me out here?
