Good 1800 - do I keep it intact?

Last fall I picked up a '78 for $50 cause it wouldn't start and is finely rusted. The object was to use it for parts for my '81 (that I use). Driver's door, dash, floor pans, etc. are all good and ideal for the '81.

This past weekend I finally managed to spend a few minutes (yes it has been a hectic winter) and get it running (swapped the coil and reduced it to one set of points). I wanted to find out how the diff and gear box felt. The trans feels better than the one in my '81. However, I ran it up the road a bit, and the engine seems really good too! So now I am not sure if I should keep the block, or maybe even keep the engine intact. I had thoughts of using the head on the 2 litre at some point. Is there anything on this engine that might prove useful for the 2 litre (besides the head)? I'm not sure what the differences between the two engines are, beyond the obvious ones. Can anybody tell me what might be useful to strip from it? Or would I ever want the engine intact? (I think not.) Mark, is it worth sending you the smog stuff? I would toss that stuff out. I'd kinda like to strip the car down and dispose of the rusted body by the fall of this year. 'And I'd toss out the engine block too. Do I keep the cam towers?

I guess I'm thinking out loud - before I create a big pile of parts.

if you keep it complete you'll always have a spare when your's fales , even if you later only need a piece you would know exacly where to look or make a rebuild project from it , when rebuilded and tuned you can hose it in your car or sell it and gaine some ...

if you have the room to store it intact, do so.

strip parts as you sell them, not ahead of time.

What a great deal,for $50.I would store the motor intact,and the gearbox ,for sure! Why dont I ever find deals like that?

I think I'd keep it intact also, but if you remove the smog equipment let me know
