Best Synthetic Oil for a Spider??

Post by kapman001 »

To date I have been using Castrol GTX 5W30 in my little Spider but am looking to move to Synthetic. I am thinking of going with Castrol Syntec 5W30. Is this a good option or does anyone have another suggestion?

make sure you don't have any leaks prior to switching to syn oil. I've seen lots of high-mileage motors leak like crazy after switching to the real slippery oil

any good synthetic is ok me i run 5w20 mobil one in my everyday cars 1998 gmc sonoma with over 100000 miles on it and 2006 hyundia xg350 with 15000 miles on it. my spyder i run royal purple 20w50 in it. one reason is because it leaks from around the oil seals front main and rear but not so bad i have to add a quart everytime i start the car. i add a quart about every 2500 miles . i like royal purple because of the added pertection it afords for the fiat(high reving engine). the other cars run fine on mobil one, its cheaper than royal purple and more availible, my fiat does not get driven as much as the other cars (it gets driven on the weekends) there is also some web sites the are more up to date about oils and syntheics

Thanks for the responses! Spyderbuddy- What is the benefot of running 20w50 over 5w30? (I am rather dumb when it comes to oil grades!)

you need to look at a temperature range chart to determine the proper weight.

Is the original recommended oil 15W40? I have that in my head for some reason. Hope so anyway.

I am using Shell Rotella T 15W40. It is with the diesel oils, but is ok to use with gas. Truckers recommend it and they get literally millions of miles out of their rigs.
