Backseat Speakers - Security and photos

A while back I made a speaker board to replace my pointless backseat space. It came out nice but ever since my car was broken into, I wanted to hide the speaker system. This project gives me a false sense of security but it is the best I can do to protect it without carrying the thing with me.

So I took a broom stick and glued a piece of the same black carpet I used for the speaker board. This gives me a "curtain" I can put on top of the board while parked. Went to Home Depot and got 2 tie brackets for less than $1 each. Formed them into a "2" shape and painted them black. I can now park and put on the "curtain" to hide the speakers.

I think it came out very good and hides well. Here are some photos of the project.

That looks great. I have a cheapo speaker box that sits in the back seat that I can throw in the trunk, but it sounds like #@$%. I'll have to think about building something like that.

Looks nice! It's a shame that you can't trust anyone these days. Have you ever thought of what you would do to the person if you caught them in action stealing your stuff? I think I would Know. But I don't really know how I would act until that time would come. Hopefully I never find out.

I thought of mounting them from the back, with a permanent piece of fabric over it. How much does the carpet affect the sound?

very nice. did you wire it so the four small speakers were the "front" and the sony explode was the "rear". Or did you wire two small speakers as "front" and the other two small speakers as "rear" when it comes to wiring? Then the Sub has an amp hidden somewhere? just curious, let me know.

You can play music with the curtain on top of the speakers but it kills some of the high sounds.

Top speakers are front, bottom are rear. There is a hidden amp that powers the sub. It kicks good.

The angle on the board gives me a good, strong sound even at 60mph. A lot stronger with the top up but also very good with the top down. Nothing is bolted down, the weight of the board and speakers keeps the whole thing stable.

I have been interested in putting speakers in the backseat area for quite awhile. I wanted to keep the backseat accessible, because I often throw random stuff back there for storage. I saw an older spider the other day, and the guy had drilled holes into the panel that covers the area where the windows and most of the top fold down into. I chanced it and drilled holes in there, and unfortunately the speakers I got were too deep to actually fit. So we fabricated half inch rings to push the speakers out a bit, and it just fits now. The speakers sound great and its a huge improvement. It looks alright, can't even tell there's the ring unless you look closely. They're a set of 5.5" Sony Xplods, same brand as the ones Velozi installed.
