Cross member stud question

Post by burlybryan »

Recently rebuilt the front suspension. Got a call from the alignment shop saying that one of the crossmember studs is spinning and can't be torqued. Are these replaceable or in any way serviceable? Could it be welded? Please don't say I need a new crossmember - these are way too expensive!

Thanks.

Posted first, searched second. Appears that bolt/stud can be welded as long as the surrounding metal is sound. My crossmember is in very good condition - very little rust on the suspension of this car.

Might as well replace the sagging spring while I'm there....and it never ends. Hopefully I'm driving this thing before it snows.

I'm figuring the/a stud the lower a arm attaches to... has broken the weld. Mine did that several years ago and I had a friend weld it back on. Fine now for 3 years.

Thanks! That's the plan. It looks like I can't weld it in it's little boxed housing but the peened over or flattened end should be accessible. Time to make some sparks.
