Elected to the Steering Committee

Post by pope »

Just rebuilt my steering box and idler arm. I put Mobil1 75w/90 synthetic in the steering box (7.25 oz.). It looks brand new (WOW). You could eat off the inside of these parts (but why would you?) Question is can I put the same Mobil1 in the idler arm and how much. Also, will it fill fully from the square box plug or do you have to fill the lower portion, and then screw the 3 top bolts on and top off.

Both of these are tight and soooo smooooooth.

you have to remove the top plate in the idler to get it full. Please post the video when you eat from the steering box, it could become a classic

If I knew that, Mark, I would have filled it with Extra Virgin Olive Oil.

Can you explain what FULL really is. Is it just to the top of the plate that goes on with the three screws? Do I put any in the top or is that an air space for the fluid to travel into. Is there a quoted oz. amount?

Thanks

I gotta tell ya Pope, I got a little exited when I read this. Imagine that, a man of my age.

I always take the top plate off, then remove the valve plate beneath that and fill the area between the vanes with oil. Then replace the valve plate, top plate and 3 bolts, then add a few squirts of oil into the top for good measure.

So Cal Mark - did you receive my PM?
