Fiat 124 Sport?

Hello,
please excuse the off topic, but I thought that some of you would also be interested in other 124 variants.
I recently came across a 124 Sport that is currently for sale and wanted to ask your opinion about it. I know that these models are very appreciated and rare in Europe (Spain had its own version with the Seat Sport; very rare today) and was wondering if anybody would know how (un)common these cars are in the US. I seldom see any for sale.
The car was disassembled for restoration and there are parts yet to be found. The engine iand transmission are out of the car and, as you can see, some rust is present.
I would appreciate if you could give me any pointers about the value of this car and/or if it would be worth it putting it back together,

Looks pretty rough; are you good at bodywork?

An Xweb member just sold one in SoCal, his asking price was $13,500; there's one on CL in the SF Bay Area for $12,000. Mine (complete, except no engine, $1500) won't be that nice, but probably still over $5000.

Thanks Daddio for the reply. I have done a bit of bodywork (replaced floors on classic Mini, repaired dent on hood), but I still do not know the extent of repairs needed. I might need to investigate more.
One (dumb) question, though. Does the Sport Coupe share any components with the Spider? I am thinking in terms of engine, transmission, suspension.....that might be easier to get than specific Sport parts.

Yes, they share engine, trans, rear end and suspension, basically all mechanicals (why I'm here). I had a '75 coupe from '81 t0 '87, and was happy to find a fairly nice '72.
The only difference is the length of the driveshaft, the coupe has a longer wheelbase than the spider.
Seats (front ones) are the same shape, but the rest of the body and interior are different, so try to get all of those parts.

Cool find & good luck! 124 Coupes are really the Fiat model that draws me. I like the others & god knows I own & have owned all sorts, but it's 124 Coupes that I love. Some of the trim parts can be a real bear to either find or live with, but all of the mechanical is shared with the other 124 Sport (the Spider). A 124 sedan manual transmission driveshaft is the same as the Coupe, but that doesn't necessarily make finding one much easier. Perhaps it's also the same as a Lada. Even though you do not see nearly as much about the Coupes as you do Spiders, there are a number around, at least among the online/friends/car club world.

They're fun little cars, although I have no idea of the current value or scarcity but I haven't seen one in years. Of the 18 Fiats that I've owned, one was a 131 sedan, four were 124 Sport Coupes, and the rest were 124 spiders. I always liked driving the 124 coupes, and of course they shared many of the mechanicals with the spiders. This goes back many years, but I bought two of the coupes for the grand total of $75, and they were rough. I was able to fix one well enough to drive home, while the other was stripped for parts.

Bottom Line: Fun cars, rarer than the spiders I would guess, and probably fairly easy to get mechanical parts for. Probably not as easy for body and interior parts as mentioned above.

Thanks to all for the input. I appreciate it. I went to have another look at the car and it is indeed rough. It has been sitting outside for some time and, although I think it was covered, underneath there is some rust. The rockers look in good condition though.

I love the look of mine... they are pretty rare.. Dont see them come up too often.
Here I am pulling it out of a barn in MN.

I paid $3K with engine (it was a friends that had been used as a SCCA racer)- runs and drives.. however it has a bunch of rust in the pans -

Panels and parts are tough to scrounge up.. Italy and Australia part suppliers (plus our forum host and sponsor) are helpful..

I will tell you that people gravitate towards it during car shows - its something most people don't see or know what it is..

People seem to like 124 Coupes indeed. If a lot of trim is missing from this one, it could get painful to make complete & “nice”.

I have always been more interested in the sedans. They are not very common either in the US. Living in Spain in the 70s, the Seat 124 were the cars to have. Everybody had one,

Sedans & Coupes are my favorites really. The massive production of Ladas & a strong parts support for those makes sedans surprisingly comfortable to live with or restore even here in the US.

Absolutely love my Coupe. An interesting turn of events occured just a few months ago. My 19 year old son has taken an interest in my cars. This is good, I thought they would eventually be sold off at some point. I'm slowly starting him on the basics and giving him the tour of where everything else. It helps that I'm sitting on a small warehouse of spares for the 'show and tell'.
