While pulling the heatewr core of my sons 78 124 1800 I noticed a couple of things. The vent control wire to determine floor heat or defrost was rusted and broke. I can not seem to locate a new one on line. Does anybody have suggestions. I was also thinking of pulling the inside wire out or the shielding and replacing it with new wire. Has anyone done this before. The shielding is in good shape. The other thing I noticed it seems there are fiber optic connections that go to the heater plate by the emergency brake. Can that be correct? I assume the light source is under the dash someplace. Does anyone have suggestion on how to keep the fiber optic connections connected to the heater plate. I have 2 of 4 clips but the others are missing. If worse comes to worse I can glue them in place.
Thanks
Ed

Re: Rebuild heater cables
why not just buy 2 more clips to hold the fiberoptics in place?
As for the cable, usually the wire rusts to the sheath. If the wire doesn't move now, don't expect the new one to slide into the sheath. If you can't find the oem cable from a vendor, try a bike shop for a universal cable

Mark,
Thanks for the info. I can't seem to find the clips online. Any suggestion would be helpful. I was able to free the cable in the heater line but I like you suggestion of the universal cable better. Since I have the whole thing torn apart may as well change all three.
Thanks
Ed

Re: Rebuild heater cables
Mark,
Thanks for searching for the clips. I need to check the board more often as I already epoxied the optics in place. I used a glue that will dissolve in nail polish remover fluid if I ever have to take them out. Wish I had checked earlier.
Now I have to chase an electrical problem with the turn signals since I pulled all the wiring and console to replace the heater core.
Thanks
Ed
