Brakes Pulling to the RIGHT!!!!!!!!!

Post by aglbakers »

Help! I just bought this 76 fiat and i love it!!! But the car pulls to the right when i put on the brakes. It scared the CRAP out of me when I took it for the test drive before buying it on the freeway but I had to have it any way. Can some one please help me figure out what it is?

Thankyou! Thankyou! :D

Check your brake hoses (right side especially, but all 4 for kicks and giggles 8) ) for a leak!

the most probable cause would be a sticking caliper on the left side. That creates a pull to the right since only the right caliper is applying force. Rebuilding BOTH calipers will cure the problem, but it would be wise to also check the steering linkage and front suspension for wear. Anything that causes the alignment to be off could cause a pull

I had a similar problem on mine, except it pulled left instead of right. After replacing almost everything, it turned out to be the steering components were worn out. The left wheel would turn when the weight shifted I guess. New tie rod ends, center link and an allignment, problem solved.

I had a similar problem myself. Ended up with new calipers, hoses, and replaced the bearings (had someone pull in front of me, and when I hit the brakes the right wheel locked and was making clicking noises afterwards). It was a few hundred dollars (and a few days of work due to the hoses not coming off right, and those nuts on the brake lines stripping), but the brakes work so much better now I don't regret any of it. I doubt that the bearings are a cause of pulling, but it's not too expensive and the wheels are already off... (unless you have my luck, and it turns out the reason my bearings died was the PO used a hammer and chisel to put the races in)
