Hi 77 Spider Been sitting Brakes stuck on

Post by towinghondas »

So I towed this Spider home the body work has been started. The car has fiberglass fender and a ton of extras! I unloaded off the flatbed tow truck and moved it no ploblem. Later my wife was in it and I had her test the brakes before I pushed it. Well they are now stuck on. I figured I would be putting on all new brakes anyway. Is thier a easy way to free them. I have it on dollies to move it around.
Thanks

you're going to need calipers, hoses and a master cylinder. You could try opening bleed screws, or whack the calipers with a hammer to push them back off the rotor

Take a look in the parts for sale section. Fiasco is selling the parts from his spider. I'd suspect his brakes were in good shape, then 5 new soft brake lines and a new MC. Once the wheels are off, you might be able to get something in there to pry the piston back enough to get the calipers off. The rears only retract a little as there is a mechanical system there for the emergency/hand brake and the piston has to be screwed in.

i've had success with Rock Auto for brake parts, both rubber hoses and rebuilt calipers and new pads/rotors.

of course, if you wanna upgrade, Mark Allison sells a nice stainless steel braided hose set, and there's debate on what performance brake system to adapt to.... i have the WHOA BRAKE system from http://www.midwest124.com and like it.

Mark is right, get underneath and give the calipers a good whack in several diff directions will likely free em right up. If that don't do it, crack the bleeders, but methinks a good thunk will work wonders.
