Replacing Differential Gasket

Post by johndemar »

How big of a job is this? It's the older style axle with the 8 bolts on the front of the housing. Leak appears to be coming from the left side of the pumpkin, not the fill or drain plug or the pinion, so I'm assuming the gasket that seals to the housing.

Do the axles have to be pulled? Or can the differential just be withdrawn from the housing after dropping the drive shaft?

You'll have to pull the axles before you cal pull the pumpkin.

That's what I was afraid of. Oh well, it will give me a chance to look at the wheel bearings
