Brake Tubing Size?? Fuel line?? and Question
Brake Tubing Size?? Fuel line?? and Question
78 1/2 spider 1800
What is the size of the brake tubing?? Are they all the same size?
Has anyone used stainless steel brake lines? How many feet is needed to replace all the lines?
Fuel lines?? Are they all the same size? How many feet is needed?
Has anyone used stainless steel fuel lines?
I'm thinking of using stainless steel lines. I think it would look better and sure would last longer.
I'm thinking of purchasing a brake and fuel tubing flaring tool.
Does anyone know if anyone sells these kits complete?
If I do purchase the tools.
If anyone is interested, I'll sell sets for our cars. Thanks for your answers.

Re: Brake Tubing Size?? Fuel line?? and Question
Not sure about the total feet of each but IAP lists the fuel line diameters on their site.
Metric Fuel Hose by the Foot
Quality metric hose, designed for fuel injected applications.
7.5mm I.D. is for fuel to rail injectors on many cars.
8mm I.D. is typically used from fuel pump forward, on carbureted & injected cars.
12mm I.D. is typically used between tank & pump on injected cars.
They also sell a brake line kit that you bend yourself. Not sure if its stainless or not. IAP has always been pretty helpful with answering questions. They may give you a estimate of total feet needed if you call them. If not I'm sure someone her knows the answer.

Yeah, theirs isn't stainless and they don't specify the size of the tubing.

Brady,
There is a special flare for our cars(bell flare?),that most standard flare tools don't have.My friend has a Snap-On kit that has that, but it was high dollar. You would have to sell a crap load of lines to pay for it!.Make sure any kit you buy has the correct fitting.

Thanks Craig,
I'm just realizing it wouldn't be something easy. One question though. Are you referring to a bubble flare. Or is it a Bell Flare?
I can't find anything on a Bell Flare. I like the idea of stainless steel brake lines.

Re: Brake Tubing Size?? Fuel line?? and Question
Thats it,Brady.A bubble flare Apparently they are a little odd,and not widely used.I went thru every line that Autozone had ,none had that flare.I looked at some flaring kits, and none had that.My friend has a Foreign car shop had that Snap-On set,and made me one.I believe he said the kit was $800 Stainless would be nice, but you could buy several lifetime supplies of the standard line, for what it would cost to set up to make them.

Re: Brake Tubing Size?? Fuel line?? and Question
I was looking at this set up. It apparently does the bubble flare. I would need to know what the diameter the piping we use for each.

That sure looks like the right tool for the job... but there has to be a lower priced option Not like a tool that you use every day. Searching on it...

Re: Brake Tubing Size?? Fuel line?? and Question
As you can see. The first one only does standard sizes. I think we need something like the second one that does metric sizes.

That one is even more expensive! hahahaaazygoustoyou wrote:As you can see. The first one only does standard sizes. I think we need something like the second one that does metric sizes.
How about this one, not as fancy as those two options... Both standard and metric (4.7, 6, 8, 10mm)

This one, on the other hand, would be awesome!

Re: Brake Tubing Size?? Fuel line?? and Question
They used to have it with the dual purpose die... In this video the die has one end for standard and the other for metric. Now they only sell it with the standard only dies.

Re: Brake Tubing Size?? Fuel line?? and Question
I take it that you did not put any flares on the fuel lines, just clamped the rubber fuel line over them? How does the rubber fuel line attach in the engine compartment? There is some sort of collar? I don't see how anything clamps tight? I think I need to change my fuel lines, I'm getting gas odor inside the car.kolls wrote:I just used 5/16 fuel line off of ebay(bought 25 ft coil )picked up a tube bender from harbor frieght for 6 bucks and used that to make the 2 fuel lines. Re: Brake Tubing Size?? Fuel line?? and Question
Knowing i might get the wrath here. Soooooooo no i did not flare them and it fits really tight I used band clamps not worm gear clamps then in the engine compartment the lines on my car go from a rigid to a rubber hose to the rail. i just cut the rigid line about 3 or 4 inches from where the fitting on the steel fuel line is and spliced it in with a piece of 5/16 f.i. hose on both of them to the new fuel lines i ran and it works fine. no leaks and no more gas odor and its really critical for me since my car is fuel injected and the fuel lines are pressurized. So if it was going to leak it would show up by now. This is what i ordered
