I fabbed up the linkage for the steering and created the bracket mounting for my Chevy Camaro tilt column. I wanted to get the car back on all four wheels so that i can take it outside and pressure wash all the places i can reach. It is nicer working on it when it is clean. Once I am done pressure washing I am going to strip the interior completely and remove the doors and trunk lid. I am also going to gut the trunk and finish gutting the engine bay.



...this shot shows the linkage for the steering. Ironically, the shaft from the original spider column works perfectly to connect the Camaro column to the ford Pinto Rack and Pinion. I cut the splined end off of the original column and welded it into the Shaft end of the Chevy column. The shaft on the camaro column is hollow and the solid FIAT shaft end fit inside perfectly with a little grinding.


I prepped the Lower control arm for a sway bar mounting that is similar to E Prod Racer's E production spider race car. I am using self-lubricating chromoly heim joints for the connection between the sway bar end and lower control arm. I just need to fab a mounting on the sway bar end.

That is a very interesting approach to the rack steering. What did you do with the steering arms that come off the stub axle? Are they reversed?

Yes the the steering arms were shortened and the angle points outward instead of inward which is necessary to maintain the correct Ackerman steering geometry in a front steer application. If the rack was mounted behind the axle center line then the angled portion would be pointing inward. The front mount steering was necessary to accommodate the rear oil pan sump of the Chevy 4.3L V6.
