Time for fluid changes

Post by JohnnyRaggs »

Hey all, so I want to change every fluid in my '71 as I don't think most have ever been done. What kind of fliuds do you all use? Im looking for Brake fliud, trans and rear diff. Im guessing that any coolant is fine.

John, you will probably get a lot of varied answers on this. The brake fluid, any good DOT 3,4,or even 5 will be fine. The diff isnt picky either.I have always used good ole 90w 'dino' oil,but have come around to the synthetics. Our trannys are a little more finicky. The manual calls for straight 90W GL-1 non EP to protect brass parts inside. Many people are now using synthetics,as lubrication has come a long way in the last 35 years!I know Pennzoil Syncromesh is one that many people have switched to.I also know of some using Redline synthetic. If you choose the old school route,Vick Autosport sells a good, specific GL-1 tranny oil.

ok thanks, I was kinda worried about the brake fliud as I wasn't sure what was used stock (and Im sure its not available anymore). I think I will go with the syncromesh for the tranny and synthetic for the rear diff. Im a "new age" tech and am all about synthetic oils.
