Is this a double odds question. A. the odds that you had a buyer show up to purchase the boat with a Fiat that was then captured in your old photo. B. That this buyer actually towed the boat with the Spider? C. some combination of A & B making the odds astronomical.
I was thinking more along the odds that in June 1985 some guy showed up in a Fiat and 26 years later I ended up buying almost the exact same car Also, (now that I think about it) who the f**k comes to pick up this type of boat in a Fiat? If you live in the Ottawa area and bought a Sandpiper boat in Ottawa South in June of 1985 then that guy is you
That's really an amazing picture. With a date of 1975 then that Spider is pretty new considering 75 is the first year for the big bumpers. That's a big boat to tow, and he had to have the hitch already. I'd like to see that set up.
Most sailers are a little wacky. In most areas of his life my Dad was quiet, conservative and low-keyed. But he didn't have much extra money and loved to sail, and went to crazy lengths to buy and fix up junky old sailboats. He always needed a helping hand and I'd get drafted as the gofer and first mate. There was many an adventure along the way.
The point being, if there was a boat, a trailer and only a Spider around to tow it, he'd a done it.
Actually, back in '70 - '71, while I was in college, I had a 14' ski boat, pulled it all over about 6 states with my 124 Spider. Had the boat and trailer painted the same blue. Looked pretty cool.
