How many times do you have to screw this thing in for it to seat correctly? Is there possibly something wrong? Do I have to release the bleed screws for this to be effective?

are you just trying to replace pads or did you disassemble the calipers?

I replaced the pads, but I will remove/replace calipers if necessary.

you may need to put some pressure on the piston while you screw it in. Opening the bleeder will make it easier to retract the piston. No need to remove the caliper

Ok. My hands got really tired of the awkard position and twisting yesterday. Fortunately I still have skin on my knuckles. :D
